In the price range of hot hatches such as the Golf GTI, Honda Type R and Megane RS lies a beast that is the BMW 135i.

While the previously mentioned cars have 4 cylinder turbo charged engines under the hood the BMW has a 3 litre TWIN TURBO Inline 6, producing 309 Horse power. Furthermore, while the other cars use front wheel drive, the 135i uses rear wheel drive for ultimate driving pleasure. The only downside of the massive power the engine produces is that fuel consumption is generally not too good at around 20 mpg, but you don’t buy a car this fast for good fuel economy.

Here are the numbers:

0-60 mph: 5.3 seconds
0-100 mph : 11.7 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.3 seconds @ 105 mph
Torque: 407 Nm (300 lb-ft)

And that’s not where it ends. This car loves to be tuned, in fact it’s not uncommon for these to be loaded with parts from the BMW M3 for ridiculous performance. There have been many builds where the 135i has been converted to a BMW 1M clone. If you aren’t aware of the BMW 1M, it’s one of the rarest BMW’s with only 740 ever made and with every year, it’s price increases!

The mods:

One of the most insane mods to this car is engine swapping the original straight 6 for the BMW E92’s S65 V8 Engine. However, once you’ve added power, you need to add brakes and suspension or you’ll end up in a ditch. So to compensate for the power, the brakes & suspension from the M3 are often added. In actual fact, the best thing to do is buy a crashed M3 and use it for parts like the guy in the video below.

The Interior:

This is what sets the car apart, it’s not a boy racer interior with plastic and low quality materials. The interior is comfortable and has all the extras you would need such as dual climate control, leather seats, sat nav, and more.

The verdict:

The 135i is by far the best value BMW you can buy. It’s fast, comfortable and for the price, you get a lot of car. But what sets it apart is that you always have the option to turn it into an insane race car that can compete with the big boys such as the M3.
