Earlier today Lamborghini announced that it had set a new lap record around the Nurburgring for production cars of 6:52.01 5 seconds faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Now we’ve always ben sceptical towards times released by Lamborghini. Like with the Aventador SV for instance. According to Lamborghini it set a time of 6:59.00 witch tuned out to be in a highly modified SV.

They set the time in October 2016 with a 15 min window and did it in the 1st lap. Don’t get me wrong, they published a video of the whole thing and indeed went round the ring in 6:52.01 but, and its a big but. The record was for a production car; as it comes from factory. The Huracan was apparently highly modified with even more weight reduction, a roll cage for extra stiffness and extra suspension tuning over the ‘standard’ Huracan Performante. It also had different wheels and non road legal super sticky tires

Witch means the car was no longer ‘stock’ and therefor the lap record could not be that of a production car.

But still a Nurburgring laptime of 6:52.01 is still seriously impressive, unless it was on the GP track, then that’s very, very slow.
